Contests for Growers and Fans

Part of the 47th Annual MSAHF at the Berkeley County Youth Fairgrounds. All apples must be West Virginia grown! Decisions of the judges are final. Entries accepted Saturday, October 17, 2026, 8–9am; judging begins at 9am.

Largest Apple

• Apple industry participants only
• First place: $25 cash, plaque and ribbon

Plate of 5

• Five identical apples, all of one variety — judged on how closely the five apples match
• Apples must be entered on white paper plates
• Producers may enter one plate of Golden Delicious and one plate of any other variety

Tray Pack Apples

• Judged on how closely the apples match as a whole unit
• Submit a single layer of size 80 or 88 apples
• Producers may enter one tray of Golden Delicious and one tray of any other variety

Arrangement with Apples

• Open to the public — arrangements with apples and/or apple parts
• Not to exceed a 30″ x 30″ space
• First place: $50 cash, plaque and ribbon • Second place: $25 cash and ribbon

Apple Variety Identification

• Open to the public — stop by Saturday or Sunday before noon at the display in front of the Goat Barn
• Identify the most apple varieties correctly to win; ties broken by random drawing
• 1st place $50 cash • 2nd place $25 cash • winners announced Sunday at noon
